This past weekend we visited a total of 3 street fairs, saw 2 parades (much to McKay's dismay) and walked a whole lot! It was really fun.
On Friday we went to a neighboring town where they were having a jazz festival and stopped by the small chocolate store for some truffle samples.
You can tell Lewis loved his first taste of Chocolate! |
Saturday we drove to Jersey City to park our car and ride the metro over to New York. We noticed they were having a big street fair so walked around there for a bit and got to smell lots of delicious food. We even got to tour an adorable Pediatric Dental office that had a booth set up. I guess in New Jersey kids cleanings have to be done by a dental hygienist. So if we ever move back here I could totally get a job with a pediatric office, which I would love!
After Jersey City we headed over to Manhattan for some more adventures. We saw the 9/11 memorial, which is a beautiful tribute to all those people who lost loved ones on that terrible day.
We walked down into the financial district and took a picture with the charging bull (us and about 50 other tourists at the time). Then we walked back up to see the African Burial Monument, a cool less known monument that has great acoustics when you stand in the middle.
The real bulk of our Saturday plans were to visit the San Gerraro feast happening in Little Italy, because who doesn't love Italian food?! The streets were filled with people and lots of yummy smelling food. It was complete madness trying to walk around. To make it crazier they were doing a parade right down the middle of the already narrowed streets. They were supposed to unveil the worlds largest gelato at 4pm, but after waiting 45 minutes they announced that they were having problems with the cone so they had to cancel the unveiling. I was so sad! We decided we had done enough and were exhausted so we headed back home.
Lewis didn't really like the announcing done over the microphone, he kept making this face and then cuddling up to me. |
Sunday they were having a parade in our small town for a local World War II hero. We walked out to see it after church. Lots of high school bands, bag pipes and old cars were included. I love small towns and the traditions they have! I'm sad that we missed out on Swiss Days in Midway this year; but we are trying to find some fun small town things to fill our time with here!
